Mixtiles are designed to peel, stick, remove and restick - so you can freely chop and change your decor. These sticky art and photo solutions have become hugely popular, as they offer a chance for anyone to create beautiful, personalised gallery walls in rented homes and offices due to their adhesive backing, eliminating the need for nails. However, you do need to remove them very carefully, if you want to be sure not to damage your walls.

At Adventa, we offer an excellent alternative to Mixtiles with our StickY Frames Range and Airframes. These customisable wall art solutions offer the same benefits as Mixtiles - they’re easy to hang, and can be removed and restuck.

Tips for Removing Mixtiles Safely

Here’s how to remove Mixtiles (or an equivalent) without damaging your walls:

  • Peel Slowly and Gently: Start by grabbing a corner of the tile, and slowly peel it away from the wall, keeping it as flat against the surface as possible. This minimises the risk of pulling paint or damaging the wall finish.
  • Use a Hairdryer for Stubborn Adhesive: If the adhesive doesn’t want to give, gently heat the area with a hairdryer on a low setting. This softens the glue, making it easier to remove.
  • Clean the Wall After Removal: If there’s any residue left behind, wipe the area with a damp cloth and mild soap (dish soap works great). Avoid abrasive cleaning agents that could damage the wall’s surface.

Removing Other Sticky Photo Tiles

These instructions are not exclusive to Mixtiles. Most adhesive-backed photo tiles, including Adventa’s StickY Range, follow the same removal steps. However, it’s always wise to check the manufacturer's specific guidelines to ensure your art will stand the test of time.

Do Mixtiles Fall Off the Wall?

Mixtiles should stick securely to the wall, however factors such as wall texture, cleanliness, and humidity can affect their adhesion. Smooth, clean, and dry surfaces typically provide the best results. If a tile does fall off, it’s often due to:

  • Uneven or dusty wall surfaces
  • High humidity or big changes in temperature
  • Worn-out adhesive from repeated repositioning

To prevent this, ensure your walls are properly cleaned before applying the tiles, and avoid handling the adhesive more than necessary.
